Softball Recap: Clinton Takes a Loss

Clinton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rantoul Eagles. The Maroons were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Aliviyah Haynes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Clinton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Clinton's record now sits at 5-15. As for Rantoul, their win bumped their record up to 8-13.

When Clinton and Rantoul next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Maroons will try to stop Eureka's four-game winning streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Rantoul will take on LeRoy and their three-game winning streak at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
