Morro Bay is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over Mission Oak. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.
Eli Brown looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Morro Bay let Quentin Crotts and Jack Deovlet run wild. Crotts got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs, while Deovlet went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Deovlet has posted since back in March. Cruz Wilkinson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hoover won against Selma on Friday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Patriots walked away with a 7-4 win over Hanford.
Geo Herrera made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Herrera was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lashawn Carey was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Chris Herrera, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Hoover was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Morro Bay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Hoover, their win bumped their record up to 19-8.
