Preview: Eastwood Troopers vs. Socorro Bulldogs
Eastwood is 10-0 against Socorro since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Eastwood Troopers will be playing at home against the Socorro Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Eastwood is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
Last Saturday, Eastwood didn't have too much trouble with Americas on the road as they won 50-35.
It was another big night for Amaya Williams, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. Williams set a new season high mark in points with 21. Victoria Duran was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Socorro was beaten by Pebble Hills 62-24 on Saturday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Socorro has scored all season.
Socorro's loss came about despite a quality game from Ileane Delgado, who scored seven points along with five rebounds. Delgado set a new season high mark in rebounds with five.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Socorro struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Eastwood's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3. As for Socorro, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's match: Eastwood have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 38.6% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Socorro, though, as they've only made 27.9% of their threes per game this season. Given Eastwood's sizeable advantage in that area, Socorro will need to find a way to close that gap.
Eastwood beat Socorro 54-42 in their previous meeting back in January. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Socorro's Esmeralda Carbajal, who scored 18 points along with four blocks. Now that she won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for Eastwood to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
