Basketball Game Preview: East Lake Eagles vs. Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes

The East Lake Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. East Lake has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 28.

It was a Battle of the Birds when East Lake faced off against Dunedin on Thursday. East Lake took a 55-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Dunedin.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Bishop McLaughlin Catholic over All Saints' Academy in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Bishop McLaughlin Catholic blew All Saints' Academy out of the water with a 45-5 final score. The Hurricanes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 21 points or more this season.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic found their leader in sophomore Marley Weaver, who posted 21 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Weaver has scored at least a third of Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's points. Naomi Sanchez was another key player, putting up nine points.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.6 points per game. As for East Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.
