The Sperry Pirates will face off against the Dewar Dragons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sperry has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Tuesday, Sperry came up short against Dewey and fell 16-13.
Jake Blaylock was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Braxton Kirkendoll, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Dewar strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Kiefer. The two-run effort marked the Dragons' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
AIDEN TOMLINSON spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 15 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Dewar saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was S. Yaeger, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Dewar's win was their 38th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Sperry, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sperry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Dewar struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
