Baseball Recap: Downey Triumphs

Downey won the last time they faced Enochs and things went their way on Monday too. The Knights walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Eagles. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

Gus Munoz Cervantes made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daley Holmes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Downey's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 4-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Ortega, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Downey's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Enochs, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8.

Downey will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
