Basketball Recap: Caldwell Takes a Loss

Caldwell came up into this matchup off a tough 21-point loss last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Barnesville Shamrocks by a score of 43-40 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Redskins have suffered against the Shamrocks since February 10, 2020.

Despite the loss, Caldwell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Breighlee Moracco almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine steals. Moracco is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Barnesville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madelynn Tyson led the charge by going 6 of 14 on her way to 15 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Caydence Stephen, who posted five points along with seven boards and three steals.

Caldwell dropped their record down to 3-6 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Barnesville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season.

Caldwell will venture away from home to challenge Warren at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. Barnesville and Buckeye Local will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Barnesville is facing Buckeye Local at the right time seeing as Buckeye Local is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
