Basketball Recap: Columbia Takes a Loss

Columbia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. 2025 welcomed they with a 53-31 loss courtesy of the Pelion Panthers. The game marked the Capitals' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Pelion was led to victory by Tyshawn Caldwell and Kolton Rogers. Caldwell went 6 of 11 on his way to 17 points and four steals, while Rogers almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds. Those 17 points gave Caldwell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Daleon Phillips, who posted six points.

Columbia's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Pelion, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbia won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Batesburg-Leesville at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Batesburg-Leesville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season. As for Pelion, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Pelion Panthers face off against the Ninety Six Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on January 14th.
