Football Preview: Alvarado Indians vs. Ranchview Wolves
After each having a week off, the Alvarado Indians and the Ranchview Wolves will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alvarado knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Ranchview likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Alvarado made easy work of Glen Rose and carried off a 71-50 win. Considering the Indians have won four matches by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Cardea Collier was his usual excellent self, rushing for 318 yards and eight touchdowns while picking up 18.7 yards per carry, and also throwing for 268 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per attempt. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rushing yards. A healthy portion of that aerial production (118 yards to be exact) went to Logan Bjork.
Alvarado didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Layne Woolard, Lance Sansom, and Leland Hopson picked up one apiece. Hopson is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Logan Woolard was another major factor on D, making 18 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Alvarado was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 359 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 304 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Ranchview, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in September. They simply couldn't be stopped last Thursday as they easily beat Bridgeport 44-13 at home.
Alvarado pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Ranchview, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Everything came up roses for Alvarado against Ranchview in their previous meeting back in September of 2019, as the squad secured a 42-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Alvarado since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
