Soccer Game Preview: Sunlake vs. Wiregrass Ranch

The Sunlake Seahawks will head out to square off against the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Sunlake is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Jesuit just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Seahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Tigers are ranked first).

Meanwhile, Wiregrass Ranch waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They walked away with a 4-2 win over the Phoenix. The Bulls' winning goal came courtesy of Jovany Tovar.

Wiregrass Ranch used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate. Sam Galindo played for 50 minutes having averaged 22.5 this season and JP Tapias got 80 vs. an average of 55.8. The pair took full advantage of the opportunity: Galindo put up one assist, while he scored two goals and one assist.

Wiregrass Ranch's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 43 goals over those ten games. As for Sunlake, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1-1.

Sunlake took their win against Wiregrass Ranch in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 4-1. Will Sunlake repeat their success, or does Wiregrass Ranch have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
