Basketball Recap: Edinburg Takes a Loss

Edinburg saw some tournament action on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to the El Campo Ricebirds. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bobcats came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 409th, while the Ricebirds are ranked 1191st).

Despite the loss, Edinburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brayan Martinez went 7 for 13 on his way to 22 points and eight steals. That's the most steals Martinez has posted since back in November of 2024. Axel Navarro was another key player, going 5 of 11 on his way to 11 points along with seven assists and five boards.

Edinburg's defeat dropped their record down to 16-8. As for El Campo, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.

Edinburg didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-56 victory against King on the 28th. As for El Campo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-37 loss against Victoria East on the 28th.
