Baseball Recap: Winters Starts Season with Victory at Home

Winters gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They never let the Dublin Lions get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory.

Diego Rodriguez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Rodriguez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two).

In other batting news, Haydin Collins was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Nolan Davis was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Dublin's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winters will take on May at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dublin will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lipan at 7:00 p.m. on March 4th.
