Basketball Recap: Mayer Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Aspyn Colquitt and Taylor Mccann

Mayer was the 34-31 winner over Anthem Prep when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mayer Wildcats fell to the Anthem Prep Eagles 38-33. The Wildcats just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row.

Mayer's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Taylor McCann, who posted 14 points, and Aspyn Colquitt, who scored six points along with 11 boards and six steals. Those 14 points gave McCann a new career-high. Teresa Londrie also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Mayer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 30 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Leading Anthem Prep to victory were Madi Hatfield and Haley Mulleneaux. Hatfield had nine points and four blocks, while Mulleneaux almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Mayer's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Anthem Prep, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-7.

Mayer will welcome Bagdad at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Anthem Prep, they will venture away from home to face off against Desert Heights Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Anthem Prep is facing Desert Heights Prep at the right time seeing as Desert Heights Prep is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
