The Wynot Blue Devils will take on the Walthill Blujays on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Wynot's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They really took it to Lyons-Decatur Northeast for the full four quarters, racking up a 58-0 victory. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 34 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Lane Heimes, who rushed for 98 yards and three scores on only 13 carries. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making eight total tackles and defending one pass. Kotner Koch was another key player, gaining 73 total yards and two touchdowns.
Wynot didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Braylon Hans, Killian Steinhaus, and Jace Lange picked up one apiece. Lange got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Walthill scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a blow against Winside, falling 72-40. The loss continues a trend for the Blujays in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the defeat, Walthill saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mike Dale picked up 92 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The win made it two in a row for Wynot and bumps their season record up to 4-1. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 8.05 yards per carry in those games compared to only 3.47 in the others. As for Walthill, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Everything came up roses for Wynot against Walthill in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 50-8 victory. In that contest, the Blue Devils amassed a halftime lead of 36-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
