Basketball Recap: IMG Academy Silver Takes a Loss

IMG Academy Silver was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They were outmatched by the Southeast Seminoles and fell 70-21. While losing is never fun, the Ascenders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 614th, while the Seminoles are ranked 259th).

Southeast's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tavares Powell led the charge by going 8 of 9 en route to 17 points and eight boards. Those eight rebounds gave Powell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Keith Potter, who posted 12 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

IMG Academy Silver's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Southeast, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-7.

IMG Academy Silver won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Southland Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southeast, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll square off against Parrish Community at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeast knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Parrish Community likes a good challenge.
