Softball Recap: Lakewood Leopards vs. Red Springs Red Devils
Lakewood won the last time they faced Red Springs and things went their way on Friday too. The Lakewood Leopards walked away with a 7-3 win over the Red Springs Red Devils. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Leopards.
Caitlyn Bass made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only four hits, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Kiyah Braxton was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Fancy Bullard, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Lakewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive matches.
The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-5-1. As for Red Springs, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Looking ahead, Lakewood will host Union at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season. As for Red Springs, they will take on West Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
