Softball Game Preview: Hopewell Titans vs. North Mecklenburg Vikings

The Hopewell Titans will square off against the North Mecklenburg Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

North Mecklenburg will be up against a hot Hopewell team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Titans put the hurt on West Mecklenburg with a sharp 18-1 victory on Monday.

Maggie Nelson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Nelson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alexis McLaughlin was incredible, firing off three home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-3. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kori West, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Hopewell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, North Mecklenburg hadn't done well against Mallard Creek recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Vikings blew past the Mavericks 29-21. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

North Mecklenburg's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 23.7 runs over those games. As for Hopewell, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.

Hopewell took their victory against North Mecklenburg in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 13-5 score. Do the Titans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
