Softball Recap: Orem Starts off Right with Win over West

Orem took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over the West Panthers.

Kiley Hoshnic made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Orem got a massive performance out of Mina Powelson, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Hannah Maylett, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Coming up, Orem will face off against Cedar Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West, they will square off against Copper Hills at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
