Soccer Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Wilkes-Barre's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

With a playoff win on the line, Wilkes-Barre rose to the challenge on Saturday. They came out on top against the Delaware Valley Warriors by a score of 3-1. Given Wilkes-Barre's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania soccer rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Delaware Valley are ranked 278th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Johnny Mendola and Mauricio Mejia scored all three of Wilkes-Barre's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 28 goals.

Wilkes-Barre has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 41 goals over those ten contests. As for Delaware Valley, they dropped their record down to 8-8-3 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Wilkes-Barre will venture away from home to square off against Wyoming Valley West at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wilkes-Barre will need to watch out since Wyoming Valley West have now posted at least four goals in their last three matches. Delaware Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
