Basketball Recap: Springfield Tigers vs. Columbiana Clippers

Springfield unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 56-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Columbiana Clippers on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 40-39 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2024.

Columbiana got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Carter Johnson out in front who shot 46% from the field on his way to 16 points in addition to six assists and three steals. Those three steals gave Johnson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Senator Johnson, who posted 14 points along with five boards and three steals.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield will host Lowellville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Columbiana, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Mathews at 7:00 p.m.
