Baseball Recap: Burgettstown's Undefeated Season over After Four Games

Burgettstown blew California out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday California got their revenge. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 3-1. The loss was the Blue Devils' first of the season.

Matthew Bredel put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double. That double was his first of the season.

Bredel wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sam Elich, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Having lost for the first time this season, Burgettstown fell to 3-1. As for California, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4-1.

While Burgettstown had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
