Soccer Game Preview: Sonora vs. El Modena

Sonora is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will look to defend their home pitch against the El Modena Vanguards at 11:00 a.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.

Sonora fell victim to Centennial and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Sonora came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Centennial are ranked 204th).

Meanwhile, El Modena didn't have quite enough to beat Capistrano Valley on Tuesday and fell 2-1.

El Modena's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8-1. As for Sonora, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Sonora beat El Modena by a goal in their previous matchup back in January, winning 1-0. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vanguards turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
