East New York Family Academy and the Union City Soaring Eagles will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
East New York Family Academy entered their tilt with Friendship Collegiate Academy with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. East New York Family Academy breezed by Friendship Collegiate Academy at home to the tune of 77-40. The victory was all the more spectacular given East New York Family Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 69th in New York, while Friendship Collegiate Academy is ranked eighth in District of Columbia).
Arianna Mercado was her usual excellent self, scoring 36 points along with five steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of East New York Family Academy's points. Amariah Clyne was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Union City scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 73-19 victory over North Bergen at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Union City has managed all season.
East New York Family Academy pushed their record up to 12-3 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28.4 points. As for Union City, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.
