Preview: Monument Valley Cougars vs. Monticello Buckaroo
Monument Valley has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Monticello Buckaroo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Monument Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Monticello likes a good challenge.
Monument Valley stacked a fifth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They blew past Pinnacle 56-28 at home. Given Monument Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Pinnacle is ranked 121st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monument Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malaya Blackmountain, who scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Blackmountain has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Shikeeya Hudson, who scored 11 points.
Monticello suffered their biggest loss yet this season last Tuesday. They were beaten by Whitehorse 100-28. Monticello was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-18.
Monument Valley's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Monticello, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Everything came up roses for Monument Valley against Monticello in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 74-33 victory. Does Monument Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Monticello turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
