Basketball Game Preview: Eastland Cougars vs. Newman Central Catholic Comets

The Eastland Cougars will take on the Newman Central Catholic Comets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Eastland sitting on three straight wins and Newman Central Catholic on five.

Last Friday, Eastland strolled past Morrison with points to spare, taking the game 52-34. The Cougars pushed the score to 43-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, Newman Central Catholic extended their postseason success on Wednesday against Galva. They managed a 70-66 victory over the Wildcats.

Eastland pushed their record up to 27-4 with the win, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points over those games. As for Newman Central Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 19-14.

Eastland was able to grind out a solid win over Newman Central Catholic when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 55-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eastland since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
