Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holyoke). Everything went their way against the Smith Academy Falcons on Thursday as they made off with an 18-5 win. The Purple Knights not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 31st (when they won 16-3).
Kylie Blaha made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. Blaha was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alanna Bonilla, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Jade Maldonado, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Holyoke always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Holyoke's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Smith Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holyoke will venture away from home to square off against Agawam at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Smith Academy, they will challenge Sabis International at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
