Basketball Game Preview: Cotopaxi Pirates vs. Miami-Yoder Buffaloes

The Cotopaxi Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Miami-Yoder Buffaloes at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Cotopaxi 25, Miami-Yoder 29.8) so any points scored will be well earned.

Cotopaxi took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 33-21 win over South Park.

Meanwhile, Miami-Yoder had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bobcats 58-23. The Buffaloes pushed the score to 39-11 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bobcats had little chance of recovering from.

Cotopaxi better keep an eye on Mindy Quintana-Vazquez. She was instrumental in Miami-Yoder's win, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 14 steals. Quintana-Vazquez is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Kragel, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 18 boards.

Miami-Yoder smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 33 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 28 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Cotopaxi's record now sits at 6-3. As for Miami-Yoder, their record is now 6-4.

Cotopaxi came out on top in a nail-biter against Miami-Yoder when the teams last played back in January of 2025, sneaking past 29-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
