Gem State Adventist Academy fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Notus on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 45-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Notus Pirates. One positive for the Jaguars, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the defeat, Gem State Adventist Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ashton Decker posted 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Miler, who earned nine points.

Notus found their leader in freshman Isela Garcia, who put up 22 points and seven rebounds. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for Garcia. Another player making a difference was Libni Vargas, who had nine points.

Gem State Adventist Academy is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5. As for Notus, their record now sits at 2-6.

Gem State Adventist Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Vision at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025. As for Notus, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-39 defeat against Greenleaf Friends Academy on the 20th.
