Softball Game Preview: Dalton Bulldogs vs. Smithville Smithies

For the second straight game, Dalton will face off against Smithville. The Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the Smithies at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dalton has three straight wins, Smithville has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Dalton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Smithville with a sharp 12-6 victory on Tuesday. With that win, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Skylar Fletcher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lily Teague, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Wenger, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.

Teague wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Dalton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.

Smithville's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Dalton, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Smithville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dalton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341.
