Baseball Recap: Greenfield Drops Highest Score of Season Against Clarksburg

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greenfield). They put the hurt on the Clarksburg Rockets with a sharp 18-3 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Trey Morris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Greenfield got a massive performance out of Landon Clark, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Caden Sparkman was another key player, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Greenfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clarksburg only posted an OBP of .292.

Greenfield's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Clarksburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greenfield will host South Fulton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Clarksburg, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Liberty Tech Magnet at 4:15 p.m. The Rockets are facing the Crusaders at the right time seeing as the Crusaders are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
