Softball Game Preview: Southside Seahawks vs. East Carteret Mariners

Southside hasn't had much luck against East Carteret recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Seahawks will take on the Mariners at 6:00 p.m. East Carteret took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Southside, who comes in off a win.

Southside took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Everything went their way against Lejeune as they made off with a 16-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Seahawks, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, East Carteret didn't have quite enough to beat North Myrtle Beach on Wednesday and fell 6-5. The Mariners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mali Peck and Grayson Gillikin did some serious damage despite the final result: Peck went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI, while Gillikin went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Emmie Gillikin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Southside has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for East Carteret, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.

Southside suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to East Carteret in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Seahawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
