Basketball Recap: South Comes Up Short

South lost against Maize back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The South Cougars took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maize Eagles. The match marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, South still got an impressive performance from Gavin Devoe, who went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Devoe a new career-high in points.

Maize's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brayden Myovela led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alec Grill, who posted 12 points along with five assists and four steals.

South has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Maize, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

South will head out to take on Maize South at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South is facing Maize South at the right time seeing as Maize South is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Maize, they will be playing at home against Valley Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maize is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season.
