Luke Baudoin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between St. Martinville and Opelousas, and St. Martinville kept the tradition alive. St. Martinville's pitcher stepped up to hand Opelousas a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. The game marked St. Martinville's most dominant win of the season.
Rylin Savoy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Martinville is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Savoy was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases.
In other batting news, Ashlon Smith and Logan Bienvenu did most of the damage at the plate: Smith scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3, while Bienvenu scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Bienvenu also scored three runs, which is notable because St. Martinville is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-12 otherwise. Kamryn Leblanc was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
St. Martinville's victory bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Church Point, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Church Point has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like St. Martinville struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Church Point's way against St. Martinville in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Church Point made off with a 10-2 win. Will Church Point repeat their success, or does St. Martinville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
