Softball Game Preview: Decatur Golden Gators vs. White River Hornets

The Decatur Golden Gators will head out to square off against the White River Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Decatur came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-1 to Enumclaw. The Golden Gators' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Decatur saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kahea Sharpe, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, White River made easy work of Jefferson on Monday and carried off an 18-6 win. Considering the Hornets have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Elliotte Kajita made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Abby Akins was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Selander, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

White River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .657. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

White River is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Decatur, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
