Softball Recap: Torrington Takes a Loss

After soaring to 12 runs the game before, Torrington was a bit more limited in their matchup on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Watertown Warriors by a score of 3-2. The Raiders have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Sophia Pergola put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

Pergola wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grace Pruchnicki, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Torrington's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Watertown, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Looking ahead, Torrington will square off against Wolcott at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Watertown, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Thomaston at 3:45 p.m. on May 21.
