Canterbury and Dunedin are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Crusaders will host the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canterbury has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Canterbury came up short against Largo on Wednesday, falling 17-2.
Canterbury saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lourdes Guzman, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Dunedin put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Lakewood. The Falcons put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 17-0 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by ten runs or more this season.
Charlotte Fleeman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Lyla Griffey was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Riley Millican, who earned two RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases.
Dunedin has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Canterbury, they dropped their record down to 6-12 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Canterbury has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dunedin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
