Softball Recap: Richland Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Richland had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups a 17-0 shutout. Considering the Bombers have won 16 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Adelyn Etzel made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.

In other pitching news, Ali Evans looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Payton Chacon was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Jordan Brannon was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Richland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

Richland's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-1. As for Gonzaga Prep, they are on a 31-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-21.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Richland will challenge Kamiakin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Braves will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Bombers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gonzaga Prep, they will face off against Ferris at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bullpups' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saxons have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
