Softball Preview: Huron Tigers vs. Shelby Whippets

Huron is 3-0 against Shelby since April of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Huron Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Shelby Whippets at 5:00 p.m. Huron's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Shelby's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Huron is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Vermilion just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Sailors by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, Huron couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, Shelby stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They blew past Ontario 13-6. Winning may never get old, but Shelby sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Shelby got a great performance from Kelsey Snyder as she tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.

On the hitting side, Mallary Gundrum was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendal Parsons, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Huron's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6. As for Shelby, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
