Basketball Recap: East Bladen Piles Up the Points Against Columbia

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only East Bladen walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 60-13 victory over the Columbia Wildcats. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 21 matchups by 22 points or more this season.

East Bladen had a senior duo take command as NeNe Ward went 7-for-11 en route to 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals and Laila Smith shot 56% from the field on her way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and six steals. Ward has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 15 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tatum Allen, who posted nine points.

East Bladen was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in March of 2024.

East Bladen has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.2 points on average over those games. Columbia's loss dropped their record down to 11-11.

Coming up, East Bladen will venture away from home to take on Wilson Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wilson Prep is on a 15-game streak of home wins, East Bladen a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Columbia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
