Basketball Recap: West Seneca East Comes Up Short

West Seneca East was the 38-35 winner over Newfane when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The West Seneca East Trojans fell just short of the Newfane Panthers by a score of 54-52 on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why West Seneca East lost, don't look at Melanie Marcezin. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards Marcezin has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Marcezin, who had six points and five steals.

West Seneca East has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Newfane, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Coming up, West Seneca East will host Varsity Opponent at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newfane, they will square off against Oakfield-Alabama at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
