Basketball Recap: Richlands Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Richlands). They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lejeune Devil Pups on Friday, sneaking past 66-63. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since December 12, 2023.

Richlands had a senior duo take command as Lenny Halftner-Hunter dropped a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds and Jo?Nathan Kennon dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kennon has scored all season. Nate Mummert was another key player, putting up seven points.

Lejeune lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Connor Shea, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. Shea is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Evan Velez, who went 10 of 12 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds.

Richlands' victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-5. As for Lejeune, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Richlands didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-44 win against East Duplin on the 10th. As for Lejeune, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 74-59 victory against North Duplin on the 10th.
