Basketball Recap: T.W. Andrews Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

T.W. Andrews lost to Morehead back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The T.W. Andrews Red Raiders enjoyed a cozy 69-53 victory over the Morehead Panthers. Given the Red Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while the Panthers are ranked 395th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Morehead lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Avery Bigelow, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds. Bigelow's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

T.W. Andrews is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Morehead, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-9.

T.W. Andrews will host High Point Central at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Morehead, they will head out on the road to face off against Reidsville at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. One thing working in Reidsville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
