Baseball Game Preview: Galena Pirates vs. Morrison Mustangs

The Galena Pirates will venture away from home to square off against the Morrison Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Galena came up short against Byron on Saturday, falling 17-2.

Meanwhile, Morrison got the win against Polo on Thursday by a conclusive 16-3. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 11 runs or more this season.

Morrison got a massive performance out of Collin Renkes, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jake Stobbe, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with six RBI and one double.

Morrison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Morrison and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Galena, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3.

Galena couldn't quite finish off Morrison in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
