Preview: Ysleta Indians vs. Del Valle Conquistadores
Ysleta is 2-8 against the Conquistadores since November of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Ysleta Indians will head out on the road to challenge the Del Valle Conquistadores at 6:00 p.m. Del Valle took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Ysleta, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Ysleta took their match at home with ease, bagging a 54-25 win over the Scorpions. The win was just what Ysleta needed coming off of a 55-19 defeat in their prior match.
Janae Atkins had a dynamite game for Ysleta, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Atkins has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jesscia Jasso, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 59-17, which was the final score in Del Valle's tilt against the Knights on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Del Valle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 876th, while the Knights are ranked 403rd).
Ysleta's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-18. As for Del Valle, their loss dropped their record down to 14-16.
Ysleta ended up a good deal behind the Conquistadores in their previous matchup back in January, losing 47-28. Can Ysleta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
