Basketball Recap: Nico Martin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Alameda

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against College Park, Northgate was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 63-61 victory over the Alameda Hornets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Broncos have posted since December 9, 2023.

Northgate got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nico Martin out in front who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 20 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Martin a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Boustead, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten assists.

Northgate was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alameda only racked up six assists.

Alameda's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Omarra, who went 7 of 17 en route to 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Omarra is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Sage Kopelman, who went 8 for 17 on his way to 17 points.

Northgate's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Alameda, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-6 record.

Northgate wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 52-46 victory against Campolindo on the 22nd. Alameda has also already played their next contest, a 74-60 win against Piedmont on the 23rd.
