Basketball Game Preview: Edwards County Lions vs. Webber Trojans

Having just played yesterday, the Edwards County Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Webber Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Edwards County sitting on three straight victories and Webber on seven.

Edwards County is headed into the game having just posted their biggest win since February 13th on Tuesday. They breezed by Cisne to the tune of 49-15. While the Lions didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Webber was able to grind out a solid victory over Cisne on Monday, taking the game 46-33. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Runnin' Lions are ranked 403rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Edwards County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.4 points per game. As for Webber, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Edwards County came up short against Webber in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 58-54. Can Edwards County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
