Baseball Recap: Hidalgo's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Four

After losing to Valley View the last time they met, Hidalgo decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Hidalgo put the hurt on Valley View with a sharp 9-1 win on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Pirates, who have now won four games in a row.

Raul Prishker made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.1 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only three hits, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jose Gonzalez was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Jesus Garcia also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Hidalgo's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Valley View, they moved to 9-3 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

Coming up, Hidalgo will be playing at home against Rio Hondo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hidalgo 3.1, Rio Hondo 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Valley View, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on La Feria at 7:00 p.m. on April 1.
