Basketball Recap: Orange Panthers vs. Apex Cougars

Orange was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 66-65 heartbreaker at the hands of the Apex Cougars.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hector Garrido, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was John 'JT' Gray, who posted 16 points.

Apex was led to victory by Isaiah Scott and Justin Boyle. Scott shot 57% from the field on his way to 20 points in addition to six assists and five boards, while Boyle went 6-for-14 to rack up 16 points. Boyle continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chip Persson, who earned four points and six rebounds.

Orange's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Apex, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season.

Orange wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 78-51 victory against Carrboro on the 29th. As for Apex, they have also already played their next contest, a 70-61 loss against Southeast Alamance on the 29th.
