Baseball Game Preview: Parkland Trojans vs. Hazleton Area Cougars

The Parkland Trojans will head out on the road to take on the Hazleton Area Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Parkland's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Hazleton Area's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Parkland is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Whitehall just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Zephyrs by a score of 4-3. Trojans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Zephyrs since on Friday.

Parkland got a good showing from Steven Sepko, who pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Sepko a new career-low in walks (zero).

At the plate, Parkland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Weninger, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Hazleton Area didn't have quite enough to beat Dallas on Friday and fell 4-3.

Parkland's loss dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Hazleton Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.

Parkland skirted past Hazleton Area 7-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
