Football Game Preview: Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks vs. Waterville Indians

The Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks will welcome the Waterville Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Morrisville-Eaton's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last seven matchups.

Morrisville-Eaton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They really took it to Cooperstown for the full four quarters, racking up a 58-20 win. The Mavericks pushed the score to 50-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Hawkeyes cut but never quite recovered from.

Morrisville-Eaton can attribute much of their success to Wesley Dimperio, who rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and Mason Marland, who rushed for 127 yards and three TDs on only 12 carries. Dimperio's longest rush was for an impressive 69 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Morrisville-Eaton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 479 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 166 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.

Another reason for the win was Morrisville-Eaton's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Gavin Baker, Brody Chapman, and Cade Zaleski, who each picked up one sack apiece. Morrisville-Eaton got some further help from Baker: he picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Waterville faced South Lewis in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Indians put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 39-16 victory. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Morrisville-Eaton's record is now 7-2. As for Waterville, their record now sits at 6-1.
